Overstock.com is an online shop from the US, which was one of the first dealers in 2014 to accept payments with Bitcoin. The hotel and hostel operator A & O Hotels has been accepting payment with Bitcoin since last September, if the booking is made online. The CEO, Oliver Winter, explains: “Bitcoins are one of the most important payment innovations of recent years. That is why we are very proud to be the first hotel provider to offer this payment option to our customers.”
Many may not know that the payment option at Edeka in the online shop has existed since 2015. According to the shop owner Bleise already 5% of the customers took advantage of this service.
The Edeka Group is the largest German supermarket corporation, currently holding a market share of 26%. Founded in 1898, it consists today of several cooperatives of independent supermarkets all operating under the umbrella organisation Edeka Zentrale AG & Co KG, with headquarters in Hamburg.
